"Awake"
This is a self portrait embracing my spirituality. The eye and the heart are held, as they represent the mind and soul. They are both balanced and equally, which symbolizes the peace I have found within. I have grown into myself, and have found balance in my life. This piece embraces my personal growth, as I live with both my mind and my heart.
"Suenos"
This piece is political and cultural as I express what I feel and see with the hispanic community in regards to immigration. The word "SUENOS" meaning dreams in spanish is capitalized and displayed as a sign, resembling the hollywood sign, to show what many migrants, including my parents, see. Many give up their lives in their own country and sacrifice so much to move to the U.S.. They see the opportunity. They see their dreams actually being fulfilled, not just for themselves, but for the future generations of their offspring. Her clothes are torn to symbolize the struggle and sacrifices she has made. This is my stand against certain remarks that we are here to steal jobs or bring crime. With this piece I am highlighting what many migrants see, and the unfortunate outcome when faced at the boarder.
